Everybody who has a cell phone has their own particular phone number. Cell phone numbers, unlike landlines are not listed in a directory that is available to the general public. This is because these numbers and their listings are the property of independent cell phone companies. These companies say they won’t give these numbers away as that would be an invasion of peoples’ privacy. At the same time however, there are cases where these companies will sell off cell phone listings.

There are now some websites that offer their visitors a free cell phone directory – although it is not completely free as people have to pay to register with the site. Once they have done that then they have free access people’s cell phone numbers. Some websites also operate a free reverse cell phone directory. This enables a person to trace calls made to their number and to find out the cell phone number of whoever called them. This is a useful service for people who have been suffering from a lot of crank calls or for people who need to contact the other party for some important information. The other side of these things is that it is possible to access all kinds of information about a person with one of these directories, which means that people could be open to all kinds of abuse.
